We would like to wish our Lettings Compliance Manager, Valerie Bannister, the very best of luck as she prepares to take part in a Great Agent Sleep Out next week in aid of the charity, Centrepoint.

Valerie will join others within the estate and lettings industry in sleeping outdoors (overnight) in Olympic Park in London on 21st November  as part of a fundraising campaign that Propertymark, the organisation that supports consumers who are buying, selling or renting property, is running. It will the fifteenth year that Propertymark has organised the Sleep Out.

The aim is to raise much needed funds for UK charity, Centrepoint, which addresses homelessness and currently supports over 15,000 16-25 year olds into a home and a job every year through a network of 40 partner organisations.

Valerie is already preparing herself well for the Sleep Out and, whilst she openly admits she doesn’t like being cold, feels that her efforts will certainly be worth it.

 Valerie commented:

“The reason that I am taking part in the challenge is not only because I want to support this year’s incoming President of the National Association of Estate Agents, Lauren Scott, who has earmarked the charity for support, but because Centrepoint is such a fantastic organisation; supporting so many young people who may otherwise face homelessness and very difficult circumstances alone.

I wouldn’t describe myself as an ‘outdoors’ type, and haven’t been camping since I was a teenager (which I hated),  so this will be a personal challenge especially as I am known for liking my ‘creature ‘ comforts.  As part of this there’s the challenge of being restricted to a small number of items to take along on the night, although a very thick sleeping bag, hot water bottle, torch and my flamingo eye mask are already at the top of the list.

It’s probably going to be a very chilly night on the 21st November, but my resolve will get me through this especially when I reflect on those less fortunate than me and who rely on charities such as Centrepoint to help improve their situation.  Sleeping out on 21 November is a choice for me, I am lucky, but for so many people, they have no choice. ”

Good luck to Valerie and everyone taking part in the Sleep Out this year.
