It looks like David and Victoria Beckham will be given the go-ahead for a huge garden extension with a 91-metre lake at their Cotswolds home.

However, it comes with the condition that they are not allowed to stock the water with fish.

The A-list couple are under the watchful eye of West Oxfordshire district council ecology officer Esther Frizell-Armitage, who is passionate about protecting rare species such as crested newts.

She is also keen that the Beckhams’ new outdoor space includes refuges for hedgehogs, reptiles and amphibians.

As for the lighting, it must be kept to a limit so bats are not disturbed.

Other renovation works in the pipeline feature a gatehouse and an extension to garages that will be linked to the Beckhams’ main barn-style home by an underground tunnel, to include a large wine cellar.

This will be the ultimate playground for the former football superstar, his fashion designer wife and their family.
