It’s a move that seems so natural it’s hard to credit it hasn’t already been done but, finally, the two most iconic Scandi brands in the world have teamed up.

A collaboration between Ikea and Lego is set to launch in October, with a set of stackable storage boxes featuring Lego studs. There is also a special set of Lego bricks available to buy.

Called Bygglek, the range features a set of three small boxes, two bigger boxes and a set of Lego bricks, which can be stacked together to create different structures.

The collection is fun but still functional, with the boxes serving as both a toy and storage.

Rasmus Buch Løgstrup, designer at Lego Group said: “Bygglek is more than boxes. It is storage and play intertwined. Bygglek provides families with a product range that helps create space for more play in their everyday — fuelling creativity, making it possible to have more fun together.

“It’s a possibility to play, display the cool creations and return to it to replay, remake, recreate or start over.”

The brands say that tidying up and reorganising children’s play space disrupts their play, creative expression and growth. Bygglek is intended as a storage solution that is also fun and playful.

Andreas Fredriksson, designer at Ikea of Sweden, said: “Where adults often see mess, children see a stimulating creative environment, and Bygglek will help bridge the gap between these two views to ensure more creative play in homes around the world.”

Prices start from £10. The range will be available in stores and online from October 1.
